The Power of Surrendering

'Sometimes renewal comes in surrender' ~ Rob Bell

Some people may think that to surrender is to give up. I think otherwise. I've learnt that surrendering means letting go of control and trusting that all is well, all is as it is meant to be. Of course it's scary sometimes not to know what will be but, at the same time, it's exciting. I've come to embrace the idea of surrendering more and more as I truly have faith that whatever happens will bring growth and perspective and that the universe is always guiding me.

Few months ago, I was divinely guided to find Preston Smiles's videos and I'm so glad I did because his narrative, clarity and passion for spreading LOVE is truly beautiful. One of his videos is about the power of surrendering and I'd highly recommend you watch it (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OglYyDqaojo). I felt such a reassurance and love when listening to his words and one of the ideas that deeply resonated with me is when he says '(...) the obstacles in my path are growth opportunities for me to place it on the altar to be altered. I am watched over, guided, guarded and protected by the ever-present circle of agape love'. How beautiful is that? I couldn't help but smile throughout the video and feel such a sense of peace come over me.

While writing this post, I came across the word pronoia and it accurately defines how I felt and feel as a result of opening up to the magic of the universe. Pronoia (n) is the belief that the universe is conspiring in your favour. Read it again: the universe is conspiring in your favour. For me, that word pronoia exudes love and support, peace and clarity, guidance and awareness. I feel there is nothing to fear because, regardless of what happens in our lives, we can always choose to see things with love, with an open heart to growth, with a certainty that albeit all the pain we go through -yes, life is going to present us with doses of pain as it is natural to go through some kind of pain at some point or other- it is ALL going to be just fine.

Many times, due to the hectic nature of current life and the constant flow of thoughts, we lose sight of what really matters and become so afraid, closed down, and lost that at times we may feel completely overwhelmed. Nevertheless, if we commit to daily reminding ourselves of our true nature, our true purpose in this life -knowing we are never alone for the universe is always supporting us- then there is nothing to be afraid of. As Preston says, 'I know that when I surrender, when I allow spirit, I'm always in the right place at the right time'.

Another author who has massively helped me in the last couple of years and whose guidance I've celebrated and cherished is Gabby Bernstein. Her lastest book, The Universe Has your Back, has showered me with such a reassurance that truly we are never really alone and that surrendering to the magic of the universe is one of the greatest gifts we can give ourselves. In chapter 5 of her book she writes, 'Imagine if we lived with a presence of peace regardless of the outcome. The key to living with that peace is to surrender. (...) Trust in the power of the Universe and relax into an energy of receptivity. Stay committed to your prayer, relax, and let the signs from the Universe be your guide'.

More and more, I embrace that truth: I'm being guided all the time. It is such a relief to know that I am not supposed to control everything, that I can let things flow and allow the natural unfolding of life. Of course it is us who are living our lives and our actions determine its course but if we take little moments throughout the day to pause, breathe and remind ourselves that it is all fine, that we're being guided then we can loosen up, we can smile, we can do our best and then release it to the universe.

I've changed, and I'm so grateful that I keep expanding my awareness to what is beyond our sight. There is so much more than meets the eye and it only takes a little bit of faith at a time to marvel at the beauty that is life.
