Poem: This Part of Me

This part of me
That resides in the dark
Feels tempted to jump,
To leave behind
The effort, the achievements
And to banish the light.
This part of me that wishes to hide
Struggles to speak up,
To shine, to fight.
But this part of me
Also teaches me stuff
Like how to overcome the darkness,
How to cry,
How to stay alive
When the shadows arrive;
How to ask for help,
How to hug love tight,
How to trust there'll be an end
To the lows of this rollercoaster life.
This part of me knows
I wouldn't appreciate light
If dark was not around
Because this part of me knows
That balance is key to a fulfilling life.
