Poem: Aligned Free

She saw darkness on the horizon,

The doors were closing in;

She realised the shadows were setting camp

And she found it hard to breathe.

The thunder echoed in the valley,

Lightning struck a thousand loud times

And she felt the presence of fear

Lingering and hovering around her

Once fierce, determined heart.

She'd been here too many dark nights,

She'd cried until her heavy, swollen eyelids

Couldn't help but shut down the light.

Terrified at first, she recoiled in a corner

of the cage she'd once again put herself in;

Panicking there was no way out,

She thought her wings had been clipped.

Only thought in time she'd learnt

That it was no one but herself

The one who would retrieve into the darkness

Of the dark valley's pit.

She'd nourished her strength,

The determination to succeed had

Paved the way for her leap of faith

But from time to time, she'd default into her fearful self,

Limiting her potential because of the

sabotaging voices in her head.

She knew she could thrive and succeed

Yet she couldn't help but doubt herself

And freeze in the middle of the

Thunder and pouring rain.

She felt life was heavy even though

She had countless blessings

to be grateful for; she'd learnt

Being hard on herself would only bruise

her heart and soul.

So, in the middle of the valley

With teary eyes and under the prickly rain,

With a foggy mind and

Self-doubt heavily weighing in,

She made a sacred promise to herself:

She'd always show herself grace,

She'd give herself kindness

And she'd always see the beautiful potential

And intention her soul had been born with;

She'd always come back to peace, she'd ground herself

In the ease and serenity of the tools that showered her

With abundant grace and clarity;

She'd remind herself of her humanity

And the desire to be widely grateful and aligned free.
