Poem: Burn

Inspired by Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng

Little fires everywhere

Consume their desire to fade away.

Little fires everywhere burn bright

Within themselves.

They threaten to roar and blaze alive

But know well not to cry.

They wear masks, they terrorise

But deep down they don't like

The scars, the burns, the ash,

It is all part of the act.

The scared faces, the shock and lies

That inhabit people in the town;

They refrain from looking people in the eye

Because they know they'd never be able to hide.
