Poem: Ticking-Tock

'I just can't pretend to be
All the people think they see.'

Calm, Nathan Colberg

She never felt at ease

Rushing around in her heels.

She felt she was always behind

With accepting the soul-crushing life.

Despite the recognition and

Rewarding words,

She felt like she didn't belong

To that world of pressure and the ticking-tock.

Nothing she did was ever enough

To make people listen and value her mind:

She was too kind, she was too soft,

In the world of grades, she was a 'naught.'

She cared about her soul who

Begged her to go home, and

To step away from the bells,

Those very short breaks.

She had a breakdown, her soul was in pieces,

She could no longer breathe and pretend it was easy.

How could people live this life?

How could people rest at night?

This life was not for her,

She had to run away.

She felt like a failure and eventually

She learnt that she was a brave little soul

Because she did what many couldn't dare.

She took a step aside

And let time go by;

Time would heal wouds,

But it was a bit too soon.

She had to be patient, she had to trust,

In the timing of healing,

In the timing of life.
