Poem: The Lockdown Life

The change was real: the light, the dark.
The juxtaposition made people tear up.
The world stopped: the ying and yang.
The lockdown life was all we had.
No planes above. No up or down.
The distance remained: not close but far.
The world stopped. Death, no life.
The lockdown life was all we had.
...
Nature had been crying
And begging for a long time
Before we listened and cared enough.
Dark consequences, the unavoidable price:
Masks, queues, sanitising our hands;
Anxiety, depression were all around,
We were forced to give up the wholesome hugs.
The lockdown life was all we had.

We were in limbo, we did not know
When we'd be out of
The unforgiving unknown.
The uncertainty was oppressing
And many gave up
Leaving behind a promising, rich life.

The menacing dark would patrol the nights,
Jump on the weak ones
And devour their scars.
Dark visited me many a time
But I tried to hold on, hold on to the light.
I did not give up, I put up a fight.
I refused to accept that it was my time.
...
The change was real,
The dark, the light,
Seasons changed, we stayed alive.
Nature thanked us and could breathe alive,
Some realised we had really messed up.
We hope we've learnt, we hope it's time
To coexist with nature
And move forward with lasting love.
